Maintaining Fitness Habits As We Reopen

This article was published on: 06/16/20 3:37 AM

The last few months have caused a big shift in the way we go about our daily lives, whether that be with our work schedules, time spent with family, or the way we exercise. People have taken matters into their own hands to stay active without access to a gym and corporations have come together during this time to find a way to make health and wellness a priority for their employees.

Not only have people seen great results and success with their newly-established virtual fitness routines, but it has been a great way for people to support one another while working from home and staying connected with co-workers. Going virtual has made all of this convenient, timely, and realistic!

When businesses and gyms begin to open up across the nation, virtual fitness will likely be here to stay. Not only is the commute from the bedroom to the home gym more convenient, but it is easier to commit to and less stressful. It gives people the flexibility to alternate between their normal work routine and everyday lives, while also getting some exercise at home. We have been so creative with utilizing resources at home to create novel exercises and makeshift equipment. Preserving this momentum as the times change will contribute to better results, less stress, and a better mindset around exercise.

As the world starts to shift back to “normal”, it will be extra important to continue to manage our stress levels and maintain our self-care and wellness routines to ease the transition.

Tips to Maintain Fitness Habits As We Reopen:

  • Establish your exercise routine before we reopen.
  • If you have been eager to start exercising, take the leap! Having exercise as part of your weekly routine is a great way to limit the stress of trying to find time to workout as schedules start to change. Scheduling exercise times in your weekly calendar will help hold you accountable.
  • Set goals, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself to meet them.
  • You want to set goals for yourself to stay motivated and on track, but make sure they are realistic and achievable.
  • Find an exercise accountability partner.
